关于孤儿问题，据牟坪区五个公社的不完全统计有120个孤儿，一般没有很好安排，无人照管他们的生活问题。我们在牟坪公社七一管区了解，有6个孤儿，大一点的有的在读书，有的帮助食堂做零星活路，或上山拣大豆等。2个五岁以下的孤儿，生活上无人照管，衣服无人洗，晚上睡在食堂柴堆里或地下，如一生产队高九成（贫农）全家剩下一个三岁多的孤儿，由于生活不正规，面黄肌瘦，脑売、手和脚被蚊子咬得没有一点好的。
